The Market Street Line

In selection of a route our group consisting of a  professional enginer, electric railway and planning specialists did an evaluation of Louisville Railway blueprints in 2001   the Market Street Line offered great potential for a historic streetcar service using historic P.C.C streetcars the project had huge support from Louisville Mayor David Armstrong. A study was conducted by T.A.R.C at the request of Mayor  Armstrong.

Today the Market Street Streetcar offers the greatest potential as an economic generator linking the Highlands, NuLu, Downtown to curently under developed areas west of 9th Street  includimg the  Russell, Portland and Shawnee Neighborhoods and link Shawnee Park to the Big 4 Pedestrian Bridge. It is the goal of any city to spur development of neighborhoods that are economically vibrant, socially cohesive, and equitable. Streetcars carry much promise of being able to accomplish these goals just as they have done in countless U.S. citys USA Today reported in Tuscon, Az The streetcars have been able to obliterate those barriers by providing that direct connectivity between all of these areas,"  In Louisville the refurbishment of the Market St. Carbarn at 25th and Market would porvide jobs and create a tourist attraction. and be a driving force for others to follow with investment
